PC/WI: the RAF max's out on HARRIERS post 1970?

What if the RAF replaces all their combat aircraft on just one type . . . the Harrier after 1970?

Firstly after 1970, all the strike/attack aircraft are replaced entirely by Harrier GR-3 then GR-5/7/9's in the 1980 through to the 2000's?

After 1980 all the RAF's fighter strength is replaced entirely by a RAF spec' Sea Harrier variant and upgrade to a FA-2 variant in the 1990's?

All the aircraft then would be replaced after the 2000's or later by the Lockheed Lightning II

Would this be practical in costs and infrastructure by going over to one type?

Would this lower the capability off the RAF?

Regards filers

Am I correct in assuming that the RAF still gets to keep their Vulcan bombers and Nimrod MPA's ?

Then the RAF us taking a massive downgrade. Harrier (GR or FA) are absolutely nowhere near Tornado, Phantom or Typhoon.

The Harrier is a small, low-performance aircraft with in-air capabilities well below the Phantom, Buccaneer, Jaguar and Tornado of the late 60s and 70s. Sure, it can conduct dispersed airfield operations, but then again it would need to because its performance is so bad.

That said, if the RAF bought 164 instead of the P1154 and alongside 193 TSR2 the RAF would a real arse-kicker!
