Operation Gumbinnen or Goldap-Gumbinnen was a daring strike of the soviet-belarusan front against nazi german forces holding out in East Prussia. IOTL, the operation was a failure due to effective fortifications utilized by the defending german forces, but the soviets still managed to capture East Prussia in january 1945.
But what if the third belarusan front had succeeded in the offensive? How would the soviet invasion of Germany differ from OTL? Would they end up occupying more territory due to an earlier breakout?
