Gone Fishin'
With more finance and political will, would it be possible to build more Manchester Ship style canals in the UK linking other cities with major rivers?
Possible routes are as follows.
Route 1:RIVER DEE, From the Dee through to Chester, then splitting into 2 spurs, Eastern Spur running to Stoke on Trent, Southern Spur heads to Shrewsbury via Wrexham.
Route 2: HUMBER RIVER, From the Humber at Goole, it would split again into 2 spurs, Western Spur heading straight to Bradford via Leeds, Southern Spur heading to Sheffield via Doncaster & Rotherham.
Route 3: RIVER SEVERN. From Gloucester, again splitting again into 2 spurs, Northeastern Spur heads straight to Birmingham via Tewesbury & Worcester. 2nd spur heads straight to Oxford.
Route 4: OUSE RIVER. From The Wash, the canal would run straight to Peterborough where it would split in to 2 spurs. Southern spur would head to Cambridge, Eastern spur would head to Leicester
Route 5: RIVER THAMES. From the Thames at the junction with the River Lea it would run Northwest to Bedford then up to Birmingham.
Would these routes be practical, and would they be viable?
Regards filers.
