PC/WI: Canals dug from Persian Coast to empty quarter in Saudi Arabia?

WILDGEESE

Gone Fishin'
Been watching a YouTUBE video about the possible flooding of the Quattara Depression by creating a 34 mile canal and thus altering the local climate.

What if the Saudi's decided to do this idea with their own country.

Basically dig a canal (1,000 ft wide and 100 feet deep) and have on every 10 or so miles running East to West from the Saudi's Persian Gulf coast and all ending at the mountain plateau on the Red Sea coast. Some of the Southern canals would travel further and go straight into the 'empty quarter'.

Would this be possible and how would it change the climate if any?

Regards filers.

No, it wouldn't be possible. It makes some degree of sense with Qattara because the Depression is, as the name suggests, below sea level, so if you connected it to the sea it would flood; but the Rub' al Khali is above sea level, considerably so in places. Therefore, building a canal into it would be no different than, say, building a canal from the Gulf Coast to the Texas Hill Country, inasmuch as you're going to end up with a canal and a lot of questions about why you built the canal, but no salt lakes or bays.
