Taken from James F Dunnigan's "How to make War" and Salamanders "Modern US Army" , the US Army had the following troop totals.
1980
US Army 776,000
Reserve & National Guard 742,000
Total of 1,518,000
Aircraft (helicopters etc) 8000 aircraft
While at the same time the British Army fielded a max of around 160,000 excluding Territorial Army etc.
Aircraft (helicopters) around 200 (RAF & Army Air Corp)
What if the UK decided to make the British Army more air mobile and mechanised similar to the US Army?
I was thinking of keeping the manpower the same but increasing the number of air assets (taking helicopters out of the control of the RAF and increasing them in number to around 10% of the US total of around 800) and building more mechanised vehicles.
Could this be done within the same UK defence budget?
How would this increase the capability of the British Army?
Regards filers.
