PC: WAllies fight on the Eastern Front in WWII

There was disagreement among the WAllies IOTL about invading Italy, while in the mean time Stalin was pressuring the WAllies to contribute more against the Germans.

If the invasion of Italy is somehow butterflied away or delayed, could the WAllies have sent several hundred thousands troops to the Eastern front instead? Would they be able to make much of a difference in turning the tide against the Nazis faster than OTL?

And would Stalin even allow this, or would he embarass himself if he demanded Allied help, and then turn it down once he discovered they intended to send troops on to Soviet soil?

Also, if the WAllies played a large role in liberating Eastern Europe, this might diminish Soviet influence and perhaps even reduce the number of countries becoming Soviet satellites during the Cold War.

I've seen this discussion elsewhere & pondered it briefly myself. One possibility is a Nowegian or Scandinavian campaign with a element in Karellia. Instead of a Red Army advancing to northern Norway it would be reinforced with a British or US ground force. Logistically this is challenging, but not at the scale of the Persian supply route.

Looking at the Persian route, and Lend Lease in general it did constitute a Allied presence in the USSR. US & Brit technicians were present assisting and training the Red Army & Soviet transport organizations on the material sent.

Stalin wouldn't allow it, he tried to kill the shuttle bombing missions. The closest thing is Churchill getting his way and getting a Balkan front.
