PC: Spanish invasion over Pyrenees during the French Wars of Religion

If the Netherlands was not revolting against Habsburg rule, how best would Philip II take advantage of French succession and religion issues? Most of the protestant territory was in southern France; how severe of a barrier would the Pyrenees be to the Duke of Alba if Philip II let him off the leash?

Direct Spanish invasion would trigger an "enemy mine" situation. Accepting Spanish gold was OK. Having them invade would be a line not to cross.
So basically, not only would there be big logistic issues (not-friendly Catalonia, the Pyrreneans or Navarre-Bearn to cross through), but you would temporarily unify the French to pound the Spanish to dust.

Considering how most of the later Italian wars seemed to go for the French under a unified kingdom, I don't think they're going to be 'pounding the Spanish into dust' if they're fighting in a separate theatre from the French on French conflict.

On French lands ? There is the King's stupid wars in Italy and then there is defending the Kingdom. The level of noble involvement will be nowhere near the same.

'Italian Wars' is something of a misnomer; the Spanish achieved their decisive victory in the last one during their invasion of Picardy, where they thrashed the French at St. Quentin. It seems quite a stretch that the Guise's faction, who proclaimed Philip's daughter the Queen of France in Paris, would refuse military assistance against the heretics in Bordeaux or Occitania.
