So apparently in the 1740s the Danish king wanted to have himself or his son succeed the Swedish throne, as the Swedish king was childless. During the same period of time the Russians beat the Swedes in the Hats' War and the peace that ended that placed a Russian candidate as heir to the Swedish throne. But the Russians were forced to sent their navy to Sweden to prevent a Danish retaliation. And that gives the feeling that at that time that Denmark was more strong than Sweden, even because naturally was so or because the Hats' War had devastated Sweden so much that it became so.
So my question is, had the Russians decide to annex Finland instead of place their candidate on the Swedish throne, could Denmark have forced Sweden to accept its candidate as heir? And how might this affect Denmark relationship with the major powers like Russia, Britain, France, and Prussia?
