PC: Second Kalmar Union

So apparently in the 1740s the Danish king wanted to have himself or his son succeed the Swedish throne, as the Swedish king was childless. During the same period of time the Russians beat the Swedes in the Hats' War and the peace that ended that placed a Russian candidate as heir to the Swedish throne. But the Russians were forced to sent their navy to Sweden to prevent a Danish retaliation. And that gives the feeling that at that time that Denmark was more strong than Sweden, even because naturally was so or because the Hats' War had devastated Sweden so much that it became so.

So my question is, had the Russians decide to annex Finland instead of place their candidate on the Swedish throne, could Denmark have forced Sweden to accept its candidate as heir? And how might this affect Denmark relationship with the major powers like Russia, Britain, France, and Prussia?

These candidates were all closely related so it would not matter that much who became what, but king Frederick (who had both illegitimate and morganatic children) might not be succeeded by someone who makes Sweden stronger, or who makes the Danish hold of the straits stronger, if the other powers are allowed a say in it. Sweden got most of Finland back OTL, but will not have it back here, instead it becomes a new kingdom supported by Russia.

These two states, Denmark and Sweden, were still among the great powers at the time, albeit barely, and a union of them might be allowed, but in such a case, there must be some way to give all the local mighties a joint say in the government, something that had been lacking in the first union, and that was still lacking in the later Swedish-Norwegian union.

First problem, i believe Britain would dislike the Sound being in the hands of one Nation. which probably will mean they will intervene.

However the Danish army at this point i believe is very well trained and equipped. so 1 on 1 i believe Denmark is capable of fighting Sweden, but it all depend on the outside forces.
