PC: Russian Republic 1905

Is there any way the 1905 Russian revolution could have ended in a Republic without using ASBs?

PoD being the start of the Russo Japanese war.

Hard, but should be possible, you just have to have Nicky and all the other Romanovs really making an ass of themselves (doing MUCH worse than OTL, and OTL was bad).

The big question is what becomes the revolutionary center of power though to form the core of a republican government.

This could be possible but hard to happen on that time. What would be the best the could happen that time.
Because it should been worst than that.

What would be the chances of the Saint Petersburg Soviet becoming the core of a new government? If it did would it support the establishment of a provisional govt regime or would it keep power for itself?

If the Soviet took over does Germany intervene?

At this point: No. In 1905 France and Russia would remain allies, no matter who's in charge in St. Petersburg.

Indeed, a republic with socialists in important positions but no in-your-face rhetoric would probably just save the French the embarrasment on being allied to a rectionary Pole-oppressing regime where the Marseillaise had been banned as revolutionary propaganda until it was actually played at the signature of the alliance.

The Provisional Government came as a relief to lots of French and British people in 1917, to begin with.

There's been some thought along these lines elsewhere: for example, Sobel's For Want of a Nail postulates a 1905 Romanov-purging revolution (I think; don't have my copy handy). Thus, it's not implausible, especially if the war goes really badly.
