PC royal restorations in post Soviet Central Asia?

Was there even a remote chance for the old emirates (Bokhara, Khiva etc) to be restored in the 1990s or is it approaching ASB territory?

Probably ASB, unless you have a Bulgaria scenario where the former monarch or member of the royal family becomes involved in politics.

Interesting idea. But I'm not sure if anyone even remotely liked those guys by the last few decades of the Central Asian monarchies. And what little "Khivan" or "Bukharan" identity may have once existed has long since been replaced by Uzbek, Tajik etc. nationhood. So yeah, close to ASB.

Saparmurat Niyazov declares himself Khan of Bukhara, Kokand, and Khiva. Anyone who tries to tell the great Turkmenbashi that those Khanates were Uzbek vanishes.

Probably not much more implausible than the actual khanates having their royal families restored, since the Russians and Soviets both scrambled the borders in their rule there (or really what little concepts existed of borders to begin with).
