PC:Horthy crowns himself king of Hungary

After the Second Vienna Award or the Invasion of Yugoslavia, Could Horthy crown himself as king of Hungary given his success in overturning the Treaty of Trianon.

Horthy actually was declared King of Hungary by some Arrow Cross youth at a rally in Debrecen in 1937. The following two descriptions of his reaction should give you some idea of exactly how plausible your idea is:

(1) "A few days after the Vigado meeting, Balogh and a youthful colleague of his held a local Arrow Cross rally at Debrecen and there, without having asked leave of anyone, countered the Kormend rally by proclaiming a National Kingdom with Horthy as King. Szalasi, who seems honestly to have known nothing of the project, promptly disavowed it and expelled its authors from his party, but the damage was done. "From that moment," writes Szalasi, "the Regent regarded with antipathy the person of Szalasi and all his political enterprises." The Regent was indeed furious. His just wrath was directed against the abuse of his name, the suggestion that he was attempting to turn himself from Regent into King. He repudiated this a few days later in a strong and dignified speech in which he declared that he would not allow his name to be mentioned in connection with the throne..." (2) "There [at Debrecen] some of the more impetuous leaders of the movement proclaimed Hungary to be a national kingdom with Horthy as king. Leaflets were distributed emblazoned with the words "Long live King Miklos I." What prompted this bizarre action, which Szalasi had not authorized, is unknown, but the impact on the Regent was far-reaching. When apprised of the Arrowcross rally by General Vilmos Rödder, Minister of Defense, Horthy was so agitated that it appeared he might have a stroke..." Thomas L. One possibility I could see, though: Horthy had his son Istvan named vice-regent. Could you have a Horthy dynasty, not of kings or of emperors but of regents? I understand there have been such dynasties in Japan. And here of course: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gondor
