PC: "Guppify" the Antonov An-225?

WILDGEESE

Gone Fishin'
Despite being able to carry a max payload of around 250 tonnes, there are certain types of cargo that are too wide or high to fit in the hold of the aircraft to carry.

Engineers in the Ukraine are designing over size cargo pods that will sit on the wing shoulders, similar to how the shuttle Buran was supposed to be carried.

What if instead of doing this they alter the fuselage in the same way as the Boeing Stratocruiser was expanded to make the Aero Spacelines Gupy & Super Guppy?

Would this work?

Regards filers,

Given that only one AN-225 was ever built, you may as well just design a new plane out of whole cloth at that point. It's not like you get any cost savings from using an existing production line.

The technical objection is that the AN-225 is a high-wing design--the main load-bearing truss passes through the top of the fuselage, rather than the bottom as on all the Guppified planes in the West (whether the B-29-derivative that became the Super Guppy, the 747, or the A300). As such, to 'guppify' it, you'd need to expand an An-225 fuselage downward. Since the lower part of the fuselage includes the undercarriage, you'd have to essentially design a new aircraft.
