Is it plausible for a far right boer coup d'etat in South Africa during the 1930s which winds up allying with the Axis in World War 2?

Unless the British Empire has somehow collapsed, then any Boer coup in South Africa will be crushed. Even if the British Empire has collapsed, then South African Anglos, British Rhodesians, and loyalist Boers will likely put down the coup.

What if the coup occurred in 1940?

Then it would still be crushed, but it would just take longer. South Africa is too far away to receive support from the Axis. There would be serious effects on the future of South Africa though. Britain might feel the need to "supervise" South Africa a lot more, preventing apartheid. J. B. M. Hertzog and Jan Smuts are likely to be targets for assassination, would could have major effects on South African politics. Maybe @Marius could give you more information.

The British laid the foundation for apartheid, it's hardly as if they were people who pushed racial equality.

I'm not sure any attempted coup would be successful, although there were Nazi sympathisers in South Africa (some who became senior leaders later on, such as John Vorster) I see no real possibility of a successful coup. And who would lead it? And why? In general, whites were pretty happy with sorting out their problems democratically.

Could be interesting the main thing is however the British empire at the time maybe if there is a larger Boer population ?
