Could Monothelitism have become a stable consensus solution to the doctrinal, and specifically Christological woes of the 6th-8th centuries? By this, I don't mean full agreement, of course, there will be zealots for Chalcedon and Alexandria, but could it have become the generally accepted imperial and popular faith through all major areas of Christendom? This does not have to arise from its OTL introduction, it could gain preeminence at any point in the time period, and the butterfly net is open. Or was it doomed to fail, no matter the exact situation, as an unacceptable "Solomonic" pseudo-compromise?
