PC: Confederate States of Mexico?

How plausible is it that, after losing the Civil War, the Confederates would decide to storm south and take over Mexico as with the USM in FWOAN? What would have to be done to make this plausible, if it isn't?

The one scenario I can think of that would be even halfway plausible, is if Mexico were to suddenly collapse and have a civil war a full half century prior to OTL; which could happen, but even then, the CSA wouldn't be able to take all of Mexico in one go-maybe most of the northern half if they're lucky, but holding all that down would still be difficult.

A decade or two of civil wars would be what it would take IMO. That has certainly happened before in history so it is possible, just improbable.

The question isn't so much how they're going to take part of Mexico--if there's enough chaos there, theoretically almost anyone could seize land there--but how they are going to hold it against the victorious Yankees. (I mean, the whole premise is precisely that the Yankees are victorious. For a *successful* Confederacy to annex part of Mexico is another matter; see my post on Santiago Vidaurri's alleged offer at https://www.alternatehistory.com/fo...he-csa-how-screwed-is-he.307834/#post-8788229)

Yeah, I missed that part. If the CSA decides that after it lost the war to start a new CSA in Mexican lands instead it is almost certainly fighting US as well as Mexican troops. This is very close to if not an outright ASB scenario.

Storming south and trying and carve off a part of Mexico probably isn't the most plausible thing on Earth. However if you believe wikipedia Maximilian may have been planing to invite Americans to settle in what would be the states of Chihuahua, Tamaulipas, Nuevo León, and Morelos in something called the New Virginia colony. Even if you dismiss it as a wikipedia hoax, if you can put Max in a place where he feels the only way to keep the throne is to invite former Confederates to fight for him maybe you can put Northern Mexico in a position where it tries to break away if Mexico becomes unstable some years latter after heavy settlement by southerners.

And what place could that possibly be, pray tell? His only possible way to stay in power at all is to get at least tact acceptance by the US government so they don't intervene in his civil war and stop the flow of supplies/munitions to the Liberals, and that's never going to happen if he's adopting fleeing rebels that the US just spent 4 years stomping out and giving them a new lease on life. If anything, you just gave Washington the perfect causus belli to use its still-existing and still-massive field army (I assume this is right after the Civil War ends) to waltz in, seize the fugitives, kick him off the throne and possibly annex more Mexican lands.
