PC: Both Hitler and Stalin dies due to WWII

The most likely year for that to happen is in 1944 when there are the infamous Wolf's Lair plot against Hitler and the lesser known Operation Zeppelin attempt against Stalin which was set to occur during a celebration.

It can be that after the anti-Hitler coup is successful the new German leader tried to sue for peace with western powers but not with Soviets then they launched Operation Zeppelin as planned but took out Stalin this time. Shortly after that they surrender and ends the European theater of WWII.

Would that be within the realm of possibility?

This might get things worse, honestly. Fuhrer Goering and General Secretary Beria seem like they'd be likely possibilities. Goering being, well, Goering, and Beria being J. Edgar Hoover but much bloodier and a love for pedophilia and violating women.

Also, the Jews would probably be victimized on both sides as the 'real' killers of the leaders, so we might well see a Soviet Holocaust. My suspicion is that the USSR still wins, but it ends up staying quasi-Stalinist a lot longer, while Goering is mostly considered a fool of a Nazi who's incompetence and hate killed massive amounts of people.

Goering might become a symbol of Neo-Nazism, and we might even see stuff like Wunderwaffen and Werwolf be employed. The former would be a waste of money, but the latter could become a serious problem for the occupying Soviets and allies.

Wouldn't a successful Operation Valkyrie be likely to kill Goering as well?

While I see Goering acting as Fuhrer, I think that he could be quickly replaced and maybe start a civil war since the Army and the SS both were purging for some power and (mostly the Army) wanted to see Hitler dead. I could see that the Army reaches out the Allies and start talks with them while Himmler excecutes/imprisions Goring and goes for Berlin.

But I see the Soviets being far more stable, since even after OTL's Stalin death, they feared him so much that they didn't want to speak of him until 1956. Beria might have been a bad choice, but as far as I know he was willing to release East Germany if they were kept neutral, something that the Allies could agree at first, but when he dies and/or is replaced, they can start to rearm Germany and make her an active political player in Europe. But they have to play their cards right if they want that to happen.

PS: What's exactly your timeline about? The one you have in your firm, because I took me to chat instead of the ASB forum :p

Germany would suffer more than the Soviets as some have pointed out that a civil war for control could break out, thus leading to a fast defeat of Germany.

Well, Goering would probably be killed in Valkyrie, as was pointed out above, but either way, there would definitely be conflict. I think that the Wehrmacht would likely defeat the SS if it did go to a civil war, but yeah. I can't see the Wehrmacht really siding with the allies, to be honest, because memories of Versailles were still a thing and tons of people had died for this war. Still, maybe you'd get a conditional surrender?

As for the USSR post-Stalin, I'm not convinced they'd need to play their cards right. Even if they acted about as well as OTL, they'd be in a slightly better position and under Beria or Malenkov would basically make Stalinism the default method of rule in the USSR.

PS: As for my TL, it's kind of a parody of internet communists and anarchists. For reasons unknown, Xi Jinping starts going anarcho-capitalist libertarian and Deng Xiaoping turns out to secretly have wanted a restoration of the Ming dynasty. From there, we chart a group of far-leftists on the internet as they bitch, moan, try to justify how libertarian China is totally socialist, eviscerate each other over petty ideological differences, and in one case, trade DMT over the deep web.

After that, as far as History goes, it looks like Hitler and Stalin surviving their assassination attempts turned out to be a good thing in the end. Of course, it would have been better if those two would have butterflied away before they came to power.

And that's nice! I will take a look as your timeline too, I love political satire. Keep up the good work :D

1. Beria wasn't even a full member of the Politburo at the time, it is unlikely that he would even succeed as leader.
2. If Beria did somehow become leader he wouldn't do what you suggested. Beria was extremely pragmatic and desired peaceful relations with the United States, he absolutely would not jeopardize that by launching a Holocaust. He also wouldn't try to force Communist regimes on Eastern Europe, they would undoubtedly be Finlandized and be made to with defence pacts with the Soviet Union, but would be allowed to keep their liberal democratic governments. With Beria in charge there probably wouldn't be a Cold War.

Beria was, in addition to not being a full member of the Politburo, absolutely HATED by just about everyone who mattered in the Soviet Union. I can foresee no real circumstances where he ends up as the head of state save one where most of the bigwigs are also taken out with Stalin.
