Okay, is there any way if Hitler sides with the SA he could defeat the army in a resulting power struggle?
Some possibilities:
A) A little far-fetched and likely to back fire: Hitler makes as if he's going to negotiate and invites the top-brass to a meeting, only to arrest them on toped up charges. Using them both as scapegoats and hostages at the same time, he holds a massive Stalinist style show trial after torturing the life out of them? He uses this as an excuse to send the SA on another rampage, this time aganist the right.
B) Hitler decides he's popular enough to withstand a coup, and uses the Nazi Party apparatus to moblize the German people aganist the Army. The coup fizzles out, Kapp Putsch style. Hitler declares the 'Second Revolution' a success and lauches a massive wave of reforms based on the original Nazi programme.
C) Most unlikely, the SA and narscant SS are able to defeat the Army in a convential civil war. Perhaps because some high-ranking officers remain with Hitler, and the common soliderly are uncomfortable with overthrowing a government that is not only democratically elected but also seems to be restoring German 'pride'.
