PC and WI: Hitler sides with the SA and defeats the Army?

Well, looking at the USSR, purging the military of 'unreliables' didn't do them any good. If such a power struggle is successful, I doubt the Third Reich could expand beyond Austria (which might not go as smoothly as OTL either, with the Bundesheer not looking forward to it), at least not soon.

The Nazis weren't democratically elected. Hitler was appointed Chancellor by Hindenburg in a backroom deal and the Nazis recieved less then forty percent of the vote in the last free election.

True, but the the only way to keep the Nazis out of power would have been an even more undemocratic back room deal (either that or a Communist-SPD alliance in the last election, which is fairly ASB given the latent stupidity of the Comintern and the general apathy of the Social Democrats during this period). Just like the only way to keep the Nazis out of Austria would have been to impose a unpopular right-wing dictatorship on the Austrian people with foreign backing.

The Nazis were popular dude, you can't avoid that.
