PC: An European monarch setting foot in the Americas before 1808

Is there any PoD for an european royal head of state to visit at least one region of the Americas, before the Portuguese royal family's flight from Napoleon's armies to Brazil in 1808?

Well, I can't remember who it was in particular, and hell it may just be folk history for my region, however, the Lake Township, Indiana in the Roselawn-Lake Village area was privy to visits from nobles of Europe ages ago. Nothing major, a count here or there as the story goes. This being due to the fact that this entire region used to be marshlands before we drained the water, that giving name to the township and many landmarks in the area.

As it was told, by my history teachers no less, they would come for the beaver hunting and sights. There was even a island of bandits not too far from where my school is located, nasty bunch of folks from the books we read during our early years of High School.

This is a tale not many know, and hell, the local libraries and governmental institutions are the only places with real documentation of that.

A dynastic spat in 12th century or later Norway sees the loser keep some naval vessels. Exiled from Norway proper, the “rightful king” decides to head on over to Iceland instead. When the winning claimant comes a knocking in a few years, the loser flees again—this time to rumors of Greenland and beyond. Since there’s fuck all on Greenland, he presses forward based on some sailor’s half remembered Vinlandsaga, and the rest is history.

I had 5 American Monarchies in my Bourbon Magic TL. One of them went belly up (hey, I had to keep it realistic).

There's really only two things holding back visits: royals rarely traveled much, and then it was usually only to see the neighbor to conclude (or conduct) a war. and the new world was seen as a backwoods savage land where there was no real reason to leave your kingdom abandoned for a year while you went off gallivanting.
