PC/AHC: Restored Byzantium

I'm just wondering if this scenario is at all plausible; If the Russian Empire really kicked butt in WWI and conquered Constantinople would it make sense for them to restore the Byzantine Empire as a puppet state? Is it at all plausible? As for why they did so well let's say that a more competent Tsar reforms the military and industrializes Russia earlier.

If not is their another way it could happen after 1900?

No. If they conquered Constantinople, this would be the last thing they would do as Russia considered itself a "third Rome." Russia holding the city would help confirm this and the city would soon be settled with loyal Russians in place of Turk's.

It could definitely happen if Greece won the Greco-Turkish War and ends up taking Constantinople and Western Anatolia. They may run in to some trouble with Italy later on though.

I actually did this on EU4 with the extended timeline mod XD
playing as Russia, i allied greece and helped them in the war against the ottomans. Other nations depleted the rest of the ottomans and i helped greece take modern day turkey and constantinople. They formed Byzantium soon after.

I think maybe with some strong allies(Imperial Russia or even the British empire) and a declining Turkey, Greece may have been able to conquer Constantinople.

To be honest i would have loved this to happen :D

It wouldn't make much sense. Russia already considers itself the heir to Byzantium/Rome...and Greece already exists. A "Byzantine" state which exists separately and alongside Greece (and Russia) would be pretty weird.

No take Tsargrad.

But really Russia would would it too much unless it is forced by them winning but others powers threatening to intervene unless they hand it off to Greece.

Russia might not want to hand it over to Greece for political reasons. Greece wasn't a Russian satellite state so the Tsar might not trust them with such a strategically important location.

No. Istanbul was Russia's main attempt for being the "Third Rome". Rule Istanbul and you get to be the Rome for the year. Tsargrad awaits.

If Russia took Constantinople, why would they relinquish control of it to a puppet nation wearing the garb of an empire thats been dead close to 500 years rather than just hold it themselves?
