PC: A longer-lasting Srivijaya Empire

How do we get the malay-dominated Empire of Srivijaya, which controlled parts of modern Indonesia and Malaysia, to survive until at least the beginning of the modern age, or even untill today?
I heard that the india Cholas invaded Malaysia in the 11th century and ended up weakening the local Srivijayas. How can such an invasion be butterflied away?
Can this surviving malay hindu-buddhist-animist state fend off islamization?

The obvious answer is getting rid of the Ghorid Sultanate, as less Islam in India means almost no Islam in Southeast Asia.

Sri Vijaya would collapse even without the rise of Islam. The rise of Islam occurred because of the collapse of Sri Vijaya, not the other way around. It's just that, ITTL, Hindu-Buddhism would continue to be the religion of Indonesia and Malaysia post-Sri Vijaya.

Perhaps prevent Rakai Pikatan from seizing control of Central Java from his brother-in-law, the Maharaja Balaputra. Keeping Java within the empire could lend it more strength.

1. Screw the Chola.
2. Depopulate Java so that Sumatra can remain the most populous and prosperous island.
3. The introduction of Islam could actually help the empire in my opinion.

Actually, Majapahit screwed the Philippines in the long run, they prevented Luzon from gradually converting to Islam eventually in 1400, because before the rise of Majapahit the states in Luzon and Sulu were close to Pasai according to epic and oral histories which is where Islam started in Indonesia..Sulu remained close to Pasai and its successor Aceh..

I would want Pasai as the challenger to Sri Vijaya instead..
