Inspired by the ealier thread about Paul I of Russia not being assassinated I was reading the article about him on Wikipedia, and I've found this information:
"...As a boy, he was reported to be intelligent and good-looking. His pug-nosed facial features in later life are attributed to an attack of typhus from which he suffered in 1771..."
But WI he had died in 1771? He would be only 17, wasn't married, and didn't have any child. What would happen to Catherine's succession? Would she push for her bastard son Aleksey Bobrinsky be declared heir? Apparently the last Romanovs available were the brothers and sisters of the ill-fated Ivan VI, and they were all in prison for 30 years by then (the majority of them were actually born in prison). So, what could happen?
