Paul Allen dies in 1982 of cancer? What is Mircosoft's future?

As you may of heard, Paul Allen, one of the most influential men of the business world, has died today of cancer. This allows us to reflect on the fascinating history of Microsoft, the company he cofounded with Bill Gates in 1975. Allen had struggled on and off with cancer for decades, first being diagnosed in 1982. What if his first fight with cancer proved fatal? The ramifications on Microsoft, still yet to be the titan it would become in the 90s, and the world of computers in general would be huge with one of the industry's most important figures gone in the infancy of the home computer age. What does the world of tech look like without Paul Allen's footprint?

Holy crap, he was just rediagnossed .

Sad . Pretty young still and had a very influential life.

Microsoft might not be all in on operating systems in the long run and may or may not turn into software only. It's hard to say there was still lots of compition in 82/83.

Apple could do better possibly or Commodore.

Sad news

Paul Allen really pushed to make Microsoft what it was

That said . By 83 we are talking DOS has been released . They are starting work on OS/2 and other projects.

All in all anything is possible if Allen died then.

It's not so Much Microsoft, but what Allen did after Microsoft. The man was everywhere and invested in lots of companies. Charter, Seahawks, trailblazers, Vulcan holdings Spaceship one.. Xfl football league

Microsoft run by gates is what we got, if Allen died, gates might have more free hand with out Allen on the board.

This might not be all good, but then again who can say really. Os2 could have been bigger investment thus taking NT out of the picture.
