patton lives

I think he would try for a domestic political career. He was popular and famous. Not tt mention he would be motivated to run after Truman lost China.

I would love a President Patton! That would be exciting as all hell. He would be aggressive against the Soviets and the Chinese in Korea.

I've read that he planned on running for the CA House seat that in OTL was filled by Nixon in 1946. He wouldn't run in 1948, but he could end up running for the CA Senate in 1950 before running for the GOP nomination in 1952. This would serve as a greater incentive for Ike to enter the race and do to so earlier.

Consider yourself a new Fallout. Because a war with Soviet Union and China means the end of the world.

He's forced into retirement, and his increasingly erratic behavior and speeches make him political poison. He runs for office and is defeated, ultimately taking some other work and dying in obscurity.

Some people did try to get Patton to run for the California 12th congressional district seat (in Los Angeles County) represented by Jerry Voorhis. But Patton quickly turned them down [1], and Richard Nixon got the GOP nomination instead. I think Patton knew he was not temperamentally suited for politics.

Indeed, Patton, like Leonard Wood and Douglas MacArthur and Alexander Haig, has always seemed to me a good example of the kind of general who doesn't get elected president--the scary kind, the kind that gets people worried about a "man on horseback." The kind that gets elected is the Ulysses Grant, Dwight Eisenhower, maybe Colin Powell (if he chose to run) kind--the reassuring kind, the generals who don't seem dictatorial or warmongering. (Admittedly, I am a bit less sure than I was a few years ago about what sort of temperament voters want in a president. But 1948 or 1952 was not 2016; there were still some restraints around, including a stronger party system--less dependent on primaries--to eliminate "loose cannons.")

[1] The very day after the Los Angeles Times suggested his candidacy, Patton declined, proclaiming his intention to "keep completely out of politics." https://books.google.com/books?id=7pr3sfyVdQkC&pg=PA66

[2] OK, Andrew Jackson is more the first kind. But he was seen as literally the savior of his country after the Battle of New Orleans.)

This would probably be the most likely outcome. Honestly, I wonder if Patton would have even accepted a nomination for public office. He probably would have sought some kind of command in Korea but I'm not sure he would have lasted long there either.

Not before 1953 it wouldn't be. Show me it said very few Delivery Systems and the other than fewer weapons hit the US and anyone other than Europe.
Let's make it really fun in 52 let's have Patton run against MacArthur. That would be entertainment and if either one of them ended up winning it would still be better president than some we have elected since then

The guy could not make a single political statement without getting himself into a major trouble. While his statement about post-war American-British world could be forgiven, saying that the Nazis were just a political party like the Republicans and Democrats was a fundamental stupidity clearly indicating that he is not fit for any political position. Together with the slapping incident it would be a dead weight around his neck.

As far as running for the President, he would have no chances against Ike.

I'm not sure how many people would be excited about being dragged into the WWIII.

He retires to become a professional yacht racer?

Horses. He was a good equestrian, polo player, his family had a hobby ranch in California where he spent his childhood. He might have collected a stable of thoroughbreds or polo ponies. Maybe dabbled in horse racing. His involvement in politics would have been in the back room, drawn in by political heavyweights seeking funding and catering to Pattons ego. Maybe he'd take a seat in the California legislature. his tin ear would count for a lot less at that level. The local Republican party using him as a seat warmer in a safe district. He'd think himself a grandee with his money, political title, and horses. Worst case he'd be dipped into a some questionable business deal, lose his fortune, and die in poverty living on his army pension.

His memoirs would make for some interesting reading. Other than that I suspect he enjoys a retired life of leisure where he's in demand as a writer and speaker.

He'd likely be off in California by the time Kim Il Sung starts the Korean War.
