Patch lives and commands forces in Korea

Scenario:

Alexander Patch http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexander_Patch doesn't get sick in 1945; and after returning to the states in the summer is given command of some segment of American forces in occupation of Japan

then when the Korean war breaks out Patch is dispatched to handle the situation;

Patch was a solid tactician and not in any way burdened with the ego problems of Mac or Patton

also, Patch was a personal prodigy of both Marshal and Ike and enjoyed their complete and absolute trust

what sort of effects could he bring into the campaign that vary from OTL

I'm not entirely sure, at least in the initial stages of 1950. Where it would really have counted would have been to do basic combat drill and have troops at least trained sufficiently for combat instead of untrained raw recruits, but all the training in the world won't let soldiers without sufficient firepower to smash the T-34s the DPRK will be starting the war has smash the T-34s, not until the heavy artillery gets there. The big difference would be that the war's won around the Pusan Perimeter in a calculated battle of attrition and with the general following more thoroughly the orders of Washington. The big stickler would be if Patch decides to go to the Yalu or not.
