Pashalik of Habasha: An Egyptian Ethiopia

POD: Different Battle at Gura
The Battle of Gura

Ratib Pasha ordered his men to stay put in the fort. 1
A small force of infantry sharpshooters started picking off the nearby Ethiopian troops. So then, losing his patience Alula Engida ordered an immediate frontal assault. The results were disastrous. Soon the routed army proved to be easy pickings. The remains of the force retreated to Mekele, the capital. Yohannes IV swore he would meet the Egyptians in open battle next time.

Idea is to have nobles who didnt like Yohannes to swear fealty. Also Muslim emirates and sultanates in the area will get egyptian patronage.

meh, Egypt took South Sudan, which is near impossible to hold, they can likely take Ethiopia. Although in a decentralized form.
I’m a bit skeptical - why do you think the Egyptians lost IOTL?

Not so sure about that either, considering that the nobles who weren’t too fond of Yohannes - like Menelik and Ras Adal - disliked the Egyptians even more.

They lost because of a military defeat.

You have a good point, but I am thinking minor nobles, as well as muslim nobility (emirate of Harar) which actually has some otl base.

In terms of holding on, they held on to south sudan, so i am confident of ethiopia.

The Egyptians also occupied Harar and the minor Islamic Ethiopian nobles also sided with Yohannes as well, if my memory serves me correctly.

I think you mean the Sudanese province of Darfur - last time I checked, that region was apart of northwestern Sudan.

Edit: After a discussion, I have decided to put this on hiatus, and do a major plausibility revamp later. Several issues have been pointed out.
