I was wondering about how the Spanish Empire might be divided on the death of Carlos II with Josef Ferdinand of Bavaria surviving. I had a sort of rough idea based on what each side wanted. Constructive criticism would be appreciated.

France gets the southern Netherlands (I know the Dutch played dog in the manger with the SN, because they didn’t want it, and didn’t want France to have it either), but what if by the terms of whichever treaty says that the SN and France can never be ruled by the same person. Also, while the French would’ve got Italy by the partition treaties, Louis XIV never showed the slightest interest in the historic French claims to Naples or Milan.

Austria gets Naples, Sardinia and Milan: The whole reason (so I read) that Archduke Karl and Leopold I rejected on of the partition treaties, was because it didn’t give Austria a foothold in Italy. Also, the Hapsburgs seem to have preferred Italy to the SN (which is the reason I split it that way, instead).

Bavaria: gets Spain, and the kingdom of Sicily (in exchange for surrendering the duchy of Bavaria to the Hapsburgs).

Holland: gets to garrison the fortresses in the SN.

Lorraine and Savoy are the only two real losers in this, since unless the Wittelsbachs refuse to surrender Bavaria, both Leopold Joseph and Victor Amadeus II end up exactly where they started.
