Partition of Spain

I've just been wondering. What if the Spanish Civil War got even more out of hand or if people, if the regionalists hadnt decided to not stick around with the Republicans, or if things simply broke apart? Who would annex what territory, who would get a protectorate, who would get a sphere or influence? All are invited to discuss the most realistic or over the top ideas they thought of or heard other's suggest.

Franco would probably try to reconquer those areas ASAP. He may win earlier than IOTL, because his opponents are split (even more).

Two divided Spain? I found an interesting idea...

however, i guess in WW2 Spain will be a great front for operations, with Franco asking intervention of Axis, the French retreating in the Republican part of the country instead to surrender, Gibraltar under direct menace... Probably in a first moment the Axis won but however, victory will be in the end for the Republicans, because of the allies's weight.

I could see the first armistice of the SCW, assuming the Republicans do better but not enough to drive out the Nationalists, result in a rough split. However, Franco would be raring for round two - and his irredentist claim could push him further into the Axis.

Would France support an indepednent Catalonia? Would Portugal take that land in the south that Spain administers though was legally Portugal's for centuries?

Would France support an indepednent Catalonia?

In the name of anti-Fascism, probably, as well as a independent Basque country comprising only the Spanish areas. These two nations would make a useful buffer zone between France and Nationalist Spain, and would spare Paris the necessity to deploy troops to guard that border.
