Partial Recreation of Charlemange's Empire

In the Days when East Fancia existed, succession laws were not entirely stable. For example, Ludwig the German tried to get his son on the throne of Italy (it didn't work, but Louis II of Italy was still alive). he also tried to take West Francia for himself when some nobles rebelled.

Ludwig's ambitions were beyond him and in the end he couldn't even keep East Francia stable.

But suppose he managed to get Lothringia, the title of Emperor, and Italy for his oldest son as well as winning military conflicts against the Moravians (I'm well aware these foes exceed Ludwig's strength in aggregate, but the larger side doesn't always win a battle). His conflicsts against West Fracia results in many military victories and lootings, but no gain of land. Brittainy remains free from West Francian influence.

And, however unlikely, let's say his line actually manages to hold the multiple crowns all the way to his great-grandson.

What would the effect on Europe be> Would this result in a creation of a Holy Roman Empire-like entity?
