Ok, so inspired by this thread, let us take a look at the physical dimensions needed for training pilots in the dropping of aerial torpedoes circa 1938 onwards.

What I'm looking for in this thread is facts about just how much room does it take to train pilots to make a torpedo attack, in a training facility, so things like flying distances, length of the approach, depth of the water etc...

Just how deep does a torpedo dive? IIRC, the working number I have is ~100 feet?
To train pilots, how long, wide, and deep does a body of water need to be? Obviously, a straight patch of a river is unlikely to do, as depth would likely see the air dropped torpedoes ploughing into the bottom, rather than providing for a decent testing environment, not to mention the currents effects, nor folks out and about upon the waterway, to say nothing of underwater obstructions that may be lurking about down below.

So, anyone want to start this off by posting links/information of where OTL navies did their air-dropped torpedo testing?
