Palestinian UN bid without US veto

Suppose during the Palestinian UN bid, which was not too long ago, what do you think would have happened had the US not threatened to use the veto, for whatever reasons? Palestine is then accepted as a member into the UN.

And before you call it ASB that the US would not veto it, no, it's not total ASB. First off, the Israel lobby is not as all-powerful as many believe, and a majority of American Jews are actually Democrats and non-practicing, so Obama could probably still count on them. Plus, you can create PODs where Obama gets even more pissed off at Netanyahu: Say he never gets that one settlement freeze he did get, for example.

What happens next? Netanyahu isn't going to agree to simply withdraw to the 1967 borders and divide Jerusalem, but how far would the world really be willing to go in confronting Israel over the matter?

The American veto was based on more than "just" a strong Israel lobby in the US, but that's a discussion for another time.

I seriously doubt that the Palestinian UN bid would have resulted in an UN membership especially considering the ties of the Palestinian authority to several terrorist groups.

If the US didn't use its veto i'd suspect China or England to stop the UN bid cold in its tracks.

It should also be noted that an UN membership can work against the Palestinian authority. The only reason why they attempted it was the propaganda value.

Should Palestine become a member of the UN and Palestinian fringe groups continue to fire rockets into Israel (amongst other things) then Israel could make a very strong case to impose an embargo.

Giving Palestine UN status would make the whole territory deal a border dispute between nation in which the UN cannot interfere. Checkmate against the Palestinians. UN mediation would be an option, but that will solve nothing short term.

Crazy idea, the US, England and France all want a resolution on Syria, to stop China and Russia from Vetoing the resolution, US, England and France make a promise to not block the Palestine bid. This is all done behind closed doors.

Not going to happen. Russia won't allow punishing resolutions against Syria because Russia wants to keep their Syrian harbor and weapon sales up and running.

Britain isn't going to be more pro-Israel than the US. If this scenario happened at the moment and Cameron vetoed the Palestinian UN bid, the Lib Dems would not be happy. And since when was China pro-Israel?

But the veto is not going to have anything to do with being pro-Israel, but against states who have close ties to terrorists.

Edit: China and Israel are involved in a lot of technology deals and China will not risk those by supporting a pro Palestinian UN bid.
