Paleocon Takeover of the Republican Party

How early could they become the dominant force in republican politics and how does this affect the democrats and pop culture.

Umm,Paleocons like Santorum and Buchanan aren't in charge of the Republican Party though..

Are you aware who the president of the United States is? (Granted, Trump isn't *exactly* a paleocon--or *exactly* anything--but his positions on trade and immigration, etc. certainly earned him the support of Buchanan and others, whatever differences they may have with Trump on Israel. And after all, the theme of his inaugural address was "America First...")

Just because he got the support of Paleos doesn't make him a Paleo for one thing. Second,he is more of a Perotist as far as trade and immigration go,for example as far as social goes he supports LGBT(he even publicly said it at the convention).

Also he basically ran a campaign on 'America First',just as the GOP Candidates have been doing since Reagan.

At best, he's indifferent.

I believe his support for LGBT candidates was in the context of saying they were one of the groups he wanted to protect from Muslims. He likely picked up that particular trope from the European anti-immigration crowd(see Pat Condell on YouTube, for example).

I think it's fairly well-established that he's personally liberal on GLBQT rights(eg. "I've been to some great gay weddings"), but the thing is, he has also promised to appoint SCOTUS judges who want to overturn Roe V. Wade. It would be pretty hard for him to find judges who want to overturn Roe, but not Obergefell.

I do agree that there hasn't quite been a paleocon takeover of the GOP, at least partly because I don't think most of the House and Senate Republicans would endorse Trump's protectionism. I actually think "Trump" makes more sense if we think of it as a de facto third-party movement, albeit one that is currently more allied with the Republicans. And on that note...

You could actually change that "t" in "Perot" to an "n", and it wouldn't be too far off the mark.
