Pakistan to the Horizon

Pakistan has been labeled as number 13 on the failed state index of a US funded think-take by the name of Fund for Peace. The higher the country ranks the more of a "failed state that it is". I don't know much about Pakistan; only the wars that it has gotten into with India and it's terrorism problem. I've always read from newspapers quoting Indians saying that Pakistan is a failed state in the north and always believed that it was a biased perspective. And I wouldn't think that the US would be biased towards Pakistan since they are our reluctant allies right now.

So here are my questions:

-After the Partition of India how could Pakistan embark on the road to being in the same or better situation as India?
-On a separate note, what can Pakistan do now to improve itself?

Ummm... that line about expecting pakistan to conform to western values is ... interesting.

Both india and sri lanka have had vibrant and thriving democracies, not without some flaws and the occasional period of absolutism, true.

Saying pakistanis couldnt manage the same sounds awfully close to racism, if only the wierd inverted pc kind.

US is #1 I assume ;)

Without looking at the list I´d be shocked to see anything but Somalia at the nr 1 spot.

That was very enlightening; I never knew that Pakistan had more success under military dictatorship than it did with other governments. And I remember seeing a short episode on CNN documenting the shortcomings of Pakistani's legal system and they showed exactly what you were talking about.

Well if the US were arrogant enough to put themselves at number one they would be the worst state in the world according to their index. But I get your joke :p. The US is actually ranked 159 out of 177 countries and hopefully we don't rise in this index.

You are right, Somalia is the reigning champ which is not good at all. In addition, Finland is the most sustainable country ranking 177 out of 177 countries. I'm jealous of those darn Finns and their well run country...
