IOTL, the Normandie Dock in St Naizare was attacked by commandos to deny the battleship Tirpitz a place to repair damage after a theoretical Atlantic sortie. Supposedly it was the only place a ship that size could be repaired. But the Normandie dock wasn't the only large dock in St Naizare. The French battleship Jean Bart had been built in the Caquot construction facility. It was 325 meters long and included two docks, one 46 meters wide and the other 48 meters wide, which seems like it should fit the Tirpitz. Something's not adding up, because if the Tirpitz went on an alternate history Atlantic raid, it seems like it could have used the Jean Bart dock, which seems to negate the importance of Operation Chariot. Can someone explain where I'm wrong, or speculate on the alternate history significance of this?
