Ottomans without Fertile Crescent

Had the Ottomans been driven out of Iraq and Syria by Muhammad Ali and the Baghdad Mamluks, how would the country have fared in the 19th century?

Would a more concentrated and more European Ottoman Empire have been a richer or more powerful one?

The Balkan was where the most of tje revenue, manpower and basically most stuff comes from. The fertile crescent is mostly additional taxincome in the 1820s/1830s.

Since such an Ottoman Empire does not possess anything the British or French aspire to directly control, the UK and France are likely to be friendly to it (except for their soft spot for the Greeks).

Meanwhile, Muhammad Ali's Egypt-Syria, and independent Mamluk Iraq (or whatever specific successor states emerge) are likely to see Britain and France as their biggest threats and seek Russian aid eventually.

The soft spot of the British was reducing Russian influence in the area as much as possible. And for the French it was regaining lost prestige of the Napoleonic era.

Mamluk Iraq will likely fall to Mehmed Ali. Easy to take and more land.
