Ottomans win the battle of Zenta

Zenta should not have been an Ottoman defeat. They had the numbers, and were well armed, in no small part due to French financial backing.

So the Ottoman army wins. What are the effects?

I'm not sure you can say they shouldn't have been defeated. Eugene of Savoy caught them crossing the Tisza. Superior position and surprise go a long way. But even so, I understand the question -- What if the was a different battle and the Ottomans won?

Clearly, as with any POD between 1500 and 1900, the result is the immediate and complete collapse of Ottoman Empire. :D

I think it was a bit late in the year for the Ottomans to really press any advantage gain here. My guess is a continued the continued partition of Hungary is the major effect. Perhaps the French can take advantage of the victory?

It also was a battle that wasn't supposed to be fought.

I think the real key to the battle was this: The Janissaries were no longer the elite force they once were, because the requirements to become one had begun to change rapidly. Although well armed, they were no longer martially inclined. Since I'm not an Ottoman expert, I'd assume that the key changes to their recruitment have occurred by this time, because the Janissaries certainly didn't fight like an elite force in that battle.

By victory we have defeated ourselves?

Wish I knew.
