Ottoman Philippines

How plausible is the Ottomans ruling the Philippines, I am toying that idea for one of my timelines and what will the ottomans get in the Philippines.

The Ottomans in the 1500s were firmly rooted in the west, conqouering Europe was their immidiate priority. To shift Ottoman focus as far as the Philliphines might require some defeats in the Balkans, and earlier Vienna-style last stretch of aggression. It'll have to be immidiatly obvious that the Europeans are too well consolidated to be eaily defeated, or at least you need a stabilization of Ottoman borders with Austria and Poland-Lithuania.

I'd probably go for a mainly peaceful take over of the Philliphines, I can't see the Ottomans easily carrying out a sustained military effort so far away from their homeland given the technological limitations of the period. Perhaps one or more local kings getting Ottoman aid against rivals in exchange for fealty, the establishement for a puppet state, rebellion, succesful Ottoman counter-attack and subsequent total annexations perhaps?

Isn't philippines too far. Beside the focus on Europe, If you were in Istanbul, taking malacca is more important than the philippines. There is no value for taking or annexing philippines if your the ottomans in 1500.

My goodness.

This requires one hell of a POD.

How about Sulu/Magindanaw seeking an alliance with the Ottomans (similar to Aceh) in fending off the Spanish? That's the best I can think of.

Malacca is muslim already so they don't have a casus belli, perhaps the Ottomans can start conquering the Pagan parts of Indonesia which in OTL converted to Christianity or stayed Pagan before proceeding to the Philippines.

Perhaps this requires an earlier conquest of Mesopotamia.

Which points again to no value for the philippines. The spanish forced themselves in luzon due the need the spanish American silver to be sold to China. But couldn't forced themselves in mindanao due to the lack of need and higher resistance and cost to conquer with no value for the spanish.

This same rationality applies to the ottomans. Philippines has no value to conquer for the ottomans. All the conquests of the ottomans are already rich in natural resources, Hungary/Serbian mines, Georgian gold, etc.

In the spice trade, Europe had no access to it. The ottomans did thru the Islamic traders. You can also do a land trade with China thru the old silk trade route. If the ottomans want to control trade, they need to conquer malacca. Being Muslim is not an exception from being conquered by the ottomans just like the ottoman neighbors were conquered. More importantly, philippines is out of the way from the spice trade route.

From about 1560s Aceh was a Ottoman Protectorate. Aceh attacked Malacca in 1568 with canons, ships and other weapons supplied by the Ottomans (although apparently no direct Ottoman involvement as the Ottomans were busy at home).

Not too much of a stretch from there to relations between the Ottoman protectorate of Aceh and the Brunei Kingdom (which includes Sulu) and then from Sulu to annex the whole of the Phillipines
