Ottokar II's Bohemian Empire survives

By the 1270's, Czech King Ottokar II had amassed an empire that included, roughly, the Czech Republic, Silesia, most of Austria, Slovenia, and some northeastern bits of Italy.

IOTL, he lost it in a war with Rudolf of Hapsburg, Holy Roman Emperor, and Hungary. After defeating Ottokar in 1278, Rudolf took the former's Austrian possessions, marking the beginning of Hapsburg Austria.

But what if Ottokar, and not Rudolf, had won? Might Bohemia, instead of Austria, become the main great power of Central Europe? Could Austria itself have been Czechisized to some degree?

I think Bohemia can make an East European "France" that has Bohemia, Croatia, Poland and Austria

Ottokar will likely still lose out on the HRE title - it's possible he wars with whoever replaces Rudolf and still ends up dead :D perhaps we have a more stable Bavarian Austria?
Perhaps he survives but has to exchange rites on Austria-Styria vs Carinthia-Carniola?

Of course any enduring Premysl line is going to get involved in both Poland and Hungary with ensuing butterflies

With the upcoming feudal colapse in Hungary-Croatia at the end of the 13th century things could get very interesting. The magnate Šubić and Csak families could choose to elect a Premysl over a Anjou canidate.

It may end with sth like Austro-Hungary, but with Czechs at the helm.

Apologies for bumping my own thread, but I'm wondering if this might lead to a Czechified Austria. IIRC, started the Middle Ages as a mostly Slavic-speaking place that gradually got Germanized-if it comes under prolonged Bohemian rule, might the Germanization be stopped (or reversed, even)?

Also, how might Czech-dominated Hungary affect the Slovaks?

Well, Slovak Lutherans used Czech, so maybe not Hungarization but bohemization of Slovak nobility. And as languages are much closer, eventually Czech may happen to be main language in area. Would Czechs attach Slovakia to the Crown or we will see further Bohemization of Hungary afterwards? Are there possibilities for linguistically closer Croatian and Czech language?

Definatly. Without the break caused by the germans and the magyars the closenes between this ATL Czech and Croatian would be roughly OTL difference between Slovenian and Croatian. It is quite likely that there would only be west and east slavic languages.

As Bohemia was considered part of the HRE I doubt that there would be a czechification. The towns were German. If Ottokars dynasty survives and gains as OTL Silesia the German influence is even stronger.

A Przemyslid Empire in the east of Germany is plausible, but it would be a "german" Empire ;)
