OTL Map Thread Mk IV., 2014-

An administrative map of OTL German Empire in 1900, was going to add names/labels, but it's already a bit clustered and there are plenty of resources for those to supplement this. As usual, Alternatehistory.com is being a butt so click the image for the 5000x4000 resolution.

Interesting, i'm not german but i've spent extensive ammount of time near bonn and i've heard kartoffel in the vast majority of cases.

Well, Kartoffel is the official Hochdeutsch for potato so it was bound to spread a bit.
Also given the extension east of Oder/Neisse this was the pre-WWII distribution, so the map is over seven decades old.

United States of Alcohol not related (apart maybe from the stuff they distill from potatoes...)

I think the OP should be edited to include this (and every few months or so, we can compile the changes, and ask for the OP to be updated), or should we just make a new basemap thread with this as the OP (to avoid the clutter ?

Great job!

If I may ask, why is terre Adelie (french claim in Antarctica) linked to the French southern and Antarctic lands (TAAF) ? I know that France officially administers it as part of the TAAF but it is of course not recognised internationally because of the Antarctica treaty, on this map linking it to te rest of the TAAF make it seems like france has more legitimacy to its claim than the other claims, which of course is wrong.

Great job!

For some reason the coloring and presentation make it look like a map posted in an ATL Map Thread, if you know what I mean. It only lacks the snarky notes.

Honestly, the only reason it doesn't have snarky notes is because Bruce Munro already did it

Thanks for pointing that out! I'll make sure to fix it in the next version.

Q-BAM version of the Northsea area ca. 5500BC, just before the Storrega tsunami. (Doggerbank and Viking bank, plus the large Doggerland lake (sunken))

I tried to draw it as best as possible.

Found some detailed maps of Norwegian parishes, counties, towns, etc. as of 1801.

roghord.gif

For example, here are Stavanger and Søndre Bergenhus amter, or what are now the counties of Rogaland and Hordaland respectively, with, as of 1979:
+ + + + + + riksgrenser (national borders)
+...+...+...+ fylkesgrenser (county borders)
- - - - - - - - - kommunegrenser (municipality borders)

It also includes the following as of 1801:
▃▃▃▃▃▃▃ amtsgrenser (county borders, but the old name)
▁▁▁▁▁▁▁ prestegjeldgrenser (prestegjeld, or parish, borders)
kjøpstader (market towns)
ladesteder ("small seaports", still important but subordinate to the kjøpstader in status)

(While similar to prestegjelder in size and location, I'm assuming that herader/herreder were slightly different, especially given how big the Stavanger/Bergen borders are here)

Some interwar Poland.

Language; population density;

Religion; percentage of the Workforce in agriculture; amount of traffic.
