Other Names for Colorado.

From browsing around US history, I gather that the name "Colorado" was considered for various places - OTL's Arizona, or a possible separate state in southern California - before finding its current home.

Had it been used for a different state or territory, any thoughts on what the present state of Colorado might be called instead? "Sangre de Cristo"? "Cheyenne"? Any other thoughts?

They had a thing for naming states after rivers, so... Platte? Or perhaps Jefferson, because of this.

I personally approve of Jefferson, but Platte also happened to be my second choice due to being the other major river in the state.

Perhaps they never change the name of the Grand River so we can have Grandia...or better yet....GRANDLAND! :D

Jefferson was the name of the original proposed territory in 1859. Other names would probably come from local native tribes or Spanish. Montana or Arapaho are a couple other good choices.

Cheyenne, Montana, and Nevada are personal favorites of mine, TBH: the latter two, especially, fit so well.....:D

Idaho, being one of the OTL names proposed for the (Colorado) territory is a strong candidate, as are Jefferson and Platte, which have been mentioned. If it's not yet known on this side of the Atlantic as an alcoholic beverage, the name Sangria might work, as would Cheyenne; Uinta might work too (though everyone would misspell it as Unita, as I did for a long time).
