It seems a lot of things in history seem inevitable, but if there's one thing I've learned on the board, nearly anything can plausibly happen. Like how many people believe the fact that it was "inevitable" Austria-Hungary would fall despite the fact it held on as long as it did and probably would continue that way without a world war. Same with the "inevitability" of the Nazi defeat which may have been changed if we see an AANW situation. The list goes on and on if you include pre-1900 POD's like "America was bound to become a world power thanks to its location" or "Napoleon was bound to be defeated."

What are other "inevitable" events in history could've happened and why would they have happened?
