I bet in every empire prior to the Ottoman Empire, women from certain region were preferred as concubines by the ruling class just like the Circassian women were by the Ottoman ruling class; they just didn't get the publicity and hype their Circassian counterpart got.

So which groups were more likely to get that publicity and hype to reach that fame?

Apparently it was pretty common for Chinese merchants along the Silk Road to purchase female Tocharian slaves, mostly of around teenage age (you don't get three guesses as to what purpose).
