Oscar Underwood...President from Kentucky?

What state is it best for Underwood to win in 1912 from?

  • Alabama isn't that hard w/1860s POD, & it's closest to OTL

    Votes: 3 33.3%
  • Alabama's possible, but Kentucky's better since he was born there

    Votes: 3 33.3%
  • Kentucky, he could move back to Louisville for # of reasons, election to congress similar

    Votes: 2 22.2%
  • A Northern state is best

    Votes: 1 11.1%
  • Just say he was born in Kentucky & let readers decide, he'd be Southern like WIlson to enough people

In reading comments on other threads, it appears even with a shorter Civil War by 18 months, and much more reconciliation, it is unlikely that Underwood would win the election of 1912 instead of Wilson.

However, here http://www.encyclopediaofalabama.org/face/Article.jsp?id=h-2961 it shows that he could have not only run frm Kentucky, but Minnesota, if things go differently!

It's nice to know I chose someone who can basically be moved anywhere in the U.S. if I give a plausible explanation.:D But, seriously...

What state would Oscar Underwood be best able to win nominationa nd election from in 1912? I basically want him to seem Southern enough that, as someone said in another thread, he can "pull a Nixon goes to China" when it comes to race relations (or a Truman integrates the military). It would be nice if it could be Alabama in 1912, but now I wonder. The split between TR and taft was bad, but nto that bad. Yet, with much more reconciliation and re-operation...

This poll will close after a few weeks.

Try Missouri, Kentucky, or Maryland.

Yeah, Missouri, Kentucky, Maryland.

Kentucky would be the best bet since Truman isn't considered quite Southern and neither is Maryland. And it's plausible since Champ Clark of Kentucky nearly got the 1912 nomination.

Champ Clark was from Missouri
