Osama Bin Laden 1957 - 2001

unless his identifiable body was produced it would change very little as far as most outsiders would perceive. There would be a commendable about of short term disarray and backstabbing as leadership was sorted out, but things would proceed largely as is.

Now if he were captured, or his indisputably identifiable body were recovered, that is another matter.

What if Bin Laden had been klilled at the battle of Tora Bora?

Little differance.

The war stills drags on. Other leader(s) arise and hide Pakistan.

Lack of victory is what made the war unpopular, not the lack of getting Osama.

Instead of being blamed for not getting Osama, Bush would be getting blamed for making him a martyer.

I can see it now.

"Obviously without the motivation caused by the martyerdom of Osama the war would have died down by now. The Bush administration was wrong to focus on killing him and not on <insert some other strategy here>."

I suspect the PoD beeing that US forces are sent to Tora Bora instead of working with the Afgan forces. The problem is, working with the Afgan forces isn't a bad idea.

They might be willing to make temporary truces with the Taliban and AQ...but they know the terrain like the back of their hand so...
