Order of Star Wars Films Reversed

the title might be a bit confusing; i dont mean that the OTL Star Wars films go from Episode 6 to Ep5 and so on down to Ep1, but rather that, instead of OTL's Original Trilogy coming first, OTL's Prequel Trilogy is made and released in theaters starting in 1977. the films are released in this order with virtually the same plotlines and significance to the larger story:

  1. The Phantom Menace (1977)
  2. Attack of the Clones (1980)
  3. Revenge of the Sith (1983)
  4. A New Hope (1986)
  5. The Empire Strikes Back (1989)
  6. Return of the Jedi (1992)
what changes would have to be made to the story in order to accommodate for the effects of the time. one example which comes to mind is that Jar-Jar and the entire Gungan species would look radically different from OTL (and the racist connections that people made probably wouldnt exist). additionally, what other actors could play the different characters given the difference of the era, what changes would be made to those characters themselves, as well as the setting and story, and what effects does everyone think all this would have on the world outside of the Star Wars franchise? because like it or not, Star Wars has been massively influential upon popular culture

No Coruscant - effects at the time wouldn't have been capable of creating a planet-spanning city.
You could solve a lot of that by doing away with the literal air-cars and having almost everything handled with ground and below-ground mass transit systems (the way New York or London are these days, only turned up to 11). Of course the chase scene would be difficult, but they could probably find a way around it, maybe a mix of parkour and car chases.

Phantom Menace bombs, and they don't make any sequels.

You assume it's same story, done same way with people having same expectations. I think part of why Menace wasn't well received was that people had high expectations and no matter what they'd see they'd be disspointed.

Yes, it sucked by itself but that just made people dislike it more.

EDIT: misread the OP, though it's Ep IV then Ep I-III then V and VI. With this I agree, chances are Menace would bomb since it simply lacks the appeal Ep IV has even on its own. If it is released in OP's order and all 6 movies get done then some plot holes wouldn't exist.

The best character was Darth Vader. Without him no Star Wars. Some little kid who's supposed to have powers? No it would not work.

Not to mention no Princess Leia. Instead you get this 14 year old girl with a weird hairstyle.

Finally no cool Stormtroopers.

That is so implasubile (or better yet: ASB) it could only happen in Lucas' present day head.

There are a three main reasons.

#1: Contrary to what Lucas says now A LOT of things just were made up as time went by during the production of the original trilogy. E.g. Darth Vader being Luke's father, Han Solo surviving the end of Episode 5, the second half of Episode 6 (which is a "remix" of the first draft of Episode 4).

#2: Expanded universe literature was A LOT more influential then you could imagine. E.g. Coruscant, Darth as a Sith title

#3: Originally Episode IV was the first movie, with eight sequels planned. Only during the end of the production of Episode 5 it was decided that it would (for now) be a mere trilogy with potential prequels if Episode 6 is successful enough (and in the end it took A LONG time for Lucas to find out what to do with the Anakin Skywalker character).

So in the end the movies would be unrecognizable, no matter how you put it.
