What if opponents of Rudd's resources tax had been murdered? The point of departure is an armed guerrilla group overthrowing Julia Guillard

Riiiiiiiight. I know that there was a lot of dissent about the resource tax, but you are going to have to do a whole lot better than your current POD to get people on board.

Futhermore about that

How about increased indignation by taxpayers, even riots if they had realised the implications of the defeat of the tax?

This is even more daft than that thread about an armed insurrection in support of Gough Whitlam a while back...:p

Thus I propose for this time line:
Clive Palmer survives the assassins bullet, takes over Queensland, secedes from Australia and runs it as his private fiefdom. With coal, gas, minerals (and oil under the barrier reef), the newly independent Queensland would be the equal of any 'oil sheikdom', with billions upon billions in natural resources leading to a new golden age for the people of this fine state... *massive Queensland-wank*

you'll recognize the volunteers by their casual outings costumes.

Assuming the absence of apathy

If apathy was non existent in Australia then there could have been a violent response to opponents of a Resources tax.

What you seem to be terming apathy is generally regarded as obedience to the law and common sense. You seem to be desperately trying to find a case for insurrection in the most politicly stable nation in the
world.

The implications for defeat of Rudd’s mining tax; you mean a continued mining industry?

Abgreed.

There needs to be a pretty massive POD for armed insurrection to be view as a viable option.

Western Australia has a strained relasonship, politically speaking, with the rest of Australia at the best of times. Murder our representatives and I'm pretty sure that WA will seceade from Federation. We already tried it once in the OTL over lesser matters

How exactly do these murders take place, who carries them out? This is ASB at its most basic premise, and no amount of "this, that there or the other thing" can shift it from that.
