Opinion of Khosrau II

One of the most important men in the history of human civilization : he destroyed 2 great empires, including his own, and made a decisive contribution to the birth of a new empire and civilization.

I wouldn't say destroyed two great empires, more like destroyed one, crippled another out of Superpower status (at a time where Superpowers generally don't exist), and helped open the gates that allowed Islam to spread east into the Indian Subcontinent, China and Southeast Asia.

Though not to say for lack of trying, Khosrau II, like many Shahs of the House of Sasan, genuinely wanted to restore the Empire to the borders of their forebears, the Achaemenid Empire, even though had he succeeded their was the likely fact that things was going to end up blowing up come the religious zeal of Islam starts to take root.

While i do think khorsau II did fuck up the byzantines and his own empire, keep in mind that the infighting after Kavadh II's death really screwed the sassanids over. And the eastern romans did eventually resurge. He may have done a lot of damage, but he didnt completely screw over both empires.

Khosrau was one of our greatest emperors who was betrayed by his over estimations for the quality of his noble subjects. The nobles failed him and he paid the highest price for it.
