Is there any possibility of an Allied landing in 1942 capturing Tunis and cutting off Rommel's retreat from Libya? Or is was that beyond the capacity of Allied air, sea and amphibious abilities at the moment. Could Operation Torch have been launched further East, say in Algiers and Tunis without any landings in Casablanca? The Vichy French in Morocco would have been cutoff on the Atlantic coast and would probably have surrendered with the rest of French North Africa. But even if they didn't the Germans would have a much harder time reinforcing Morocco than Tunisia. Then possibly Tripoli could have been captured and Rommel's retreat from the 8th Army would have been cutoff.

Not sure what the longerm consequences of an earlier and more complete "Tunisgrad" of the Afrika Korps would have been. Possibly and earlier and more successful thrust into Italy. Or elsewhere in the Mediterranean. Possibly even a shift to Northwest Europe and a 1943 D-Day.
