Operation:Sealion?

This was my idea, not a true invasion but a "demonstration" to try and convince the UK populace to negitiate a peace settlement.

The biggest problem is, even if the German's get troops into England, they have to supply them. This means getting, holding and clearing out a port; airlifts won't do it (re Stalingrad). And that simply wasn't going to happen, the ports were too well defended and even if by some miracle they were taken the defenders would have destroyed everything before they fell, leaving them useless. And German maritime losses trying to run in supplies would have been hidious.

Sealion? The eternal, glorious and always correct answer:

The Royal by the grace of god Navy!

Oh, and the next person to misuse the word decimate will get a stern telling off from me. Decimate means one in ten. It does not mean destroy.

Actually decimation is an old roman punishment for soldiers who did something illegal. 10 soldiers would draw staws, the one with the shortest straw would be stoned to death by the other 9.

It is said Julius Cesar once decimated an entire legion when they mutineered(did not happen). Meaning a random ten percent of the legion would die for mutiny. Thats a lot. The myth lived on and thus people have started to use it to call the killing of many people that.

Later on it was used more generally to name massive destruction.

Quite right about the killing one in ten - I should have been clearer in my original post.

Well, since your sig seems to indicate you wrote a book on the subject you already know that the Werhmacht lacked a reasonable amphibious doctine, sufficient logistical lift, a usable amphibious landing craft, destroyers for escort, air superiority, naval superiority, and many of the other niceties necessary to make a multi-divisional landing.

And Calbear lays the smack down. Seriously, the longer WW2 goes on, the less likely a successful USM becomes. For instance, by January the 1st 1942, a German attempt at Sealion (ASB, I know) wouldn't just be met by Imperial Forces. The Americans would come in as well.

The only advantage the Germans have going for them in 1941 as opposed to 1940 as far as I can see is that that the Fw 190 is coming into service.
